Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, has declared that a 29-year-old woman accused of torturing her 17-year-old maid with a hot electric iron will face prosecution in a competent court.

According to reports from LIB, the accused, identified as Osinachi Ede, was apprehended by law enforcement on February 3, 2026.

Ede is alleged to have used the hot iron on the victim, a student at Community Secondary School in Agulu Awka, as punishment for making a phone call.

During a recent meeting in her office in Awka on February 20, Chuma-Udeh addressed Ede, emphasizing that the prosecution of the case is essential to deter similar actions by others.

The commissioner further ordered that the victim, who had been previously sent to stay with relatives, be brought back to Awka. This move underscores the state government's dedication to protecting children.

"The suspect will be taken to court for severely injuring the victim. This serves as a warning to others who might consider behaving in such a manner," stated Chuma-Udeh.

She reiterated Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to safeguarding each child's welfare and safety within Anambra schools.

"The governor is deeply interested in this issue, aiming to ensure that every child in Anambra is safe from harm," she added.

Chuma-Udeh concluded by stating that the legal proceedings against the suspect are in line with the government’s ongoing commitment to student welfare and child protection. She cautioned that any individual found guilty of child abuse will face severe legal consequences.
