Anthony Joshua has reaffirmed his commitment to support the families of his late friends who lost their lives in a car accident while he was traveling with them in Nigeria.
On Mother's Day, an emotional Joshua paid tribute to his departed friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, as he celebrated alongside their mourning families.
The unfortunate incident occurred on December 29, 2025, around 11 AM on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, resulting in the untimely deaths of his two companions.
Joshua, 36, sustained only minor injuries from the crash and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Day.
The driver involved, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has since been charged in court with multiple offenses, including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
Since the tragic event, Joshua has maintained a relatively low profile, but over the weekend he seized the opportunity to celebrate Mother's Day with the families of his late friends. A poignant video captured Joshua dancing and sharing light-hearted moments with loved ones of Sina and Latz.
During the gathering, Joshua expressed his heartfelt condolences to his fallen friends, stating that his emotional connection was strong. "I thank God that we can come under one roof and celebrate our mothers, celebrate our brothers, celebrate those that are not with us, celebrate those that are with us, knowing that our fate will one day come," he remarked, struggling to hold back tears.
He continued, "We just stay strong until that day. We pray for our transition and just to be great in the afterlife. My heart is with my bros right now."
Joshua also took a moment to express gratitude to the mothers of both Sina and Latz for giving him two loyal friends who traveled the world with him for so many years.
"This is for my mum and our family but also Sina and Latz, Sina’s mum, Latz’s mum—it's all interconnected," Joshua stated. "I’m not making too much sense, I’m just speaking from my heart basically. Thank you, mums, for giving me Latz and Sina for so many years, looking over me. I appreciate it a lot and thank you very much."
A video of the event is available below.
In a heartfelt tweet, one observer noted, "Anthony Joshua spent Mother’s Day with the mothers of his late friends, Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Losing his two friends isn’t easy for him. He’s smiling but not happy inside. May God protect you, Anthony Joshua."
