stated they have dismantled a suspected terrorist camp in Kogi State and seized ammunition during an operation named Operation IGBO IDANU I.
In a statement released on their official X account on Wednesday, the Army noted that the raid dealt a substantial blow to a network associated with individuals Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu.
According to the press release, the soldiers navigated through dense forest and riverine areas to access the camp. The undertaking was directed by Commander of the 12 Brigade, Kasim Sidi.
The Army highlighted that the troops “maneuvered through thick vegetation, challenging terrain, and numerous river obstacles,” further explaining that they dismounted and advanced on foot to establish tactical surprise and operational control.
Such strategies enabled the troops to infiltrate the area and secure the camp.
While the suspects managed to flee upon noticing the advancing troops, a follow-up search of the vicinity resulted in the recovery of ammunition.
The recovered items included eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition containing bandoliers of 250 rounds each and one box of high-velocity grenades.
The Army stated that these recoveries have “significantly impaired” the operational capabilities and logistical support of the group.
Following the raid, the camp was subsequently destroyed to prevent any resurgence, and troops continue to patrol the area to track down fleeing members and frustrate any regrouping efforts.
This operation forms part of enhanced security measures being implemented across Kogi State. Prior reports from PREMIUM TIMES indicated that joint military and police operations, including aerial and ground assaults, commenced in areas of Kogi West due to a series of attacks and kidnappings targeting communities in Yagba and Kabba-Bunu local government regions.
In recent weeks, Kogi State authorities ordered the temporary closure of schools and certain markets and motor parks in the western regions, citing credible intelligence and ongoing clearance activities aimed at eradicating banditry and disrupting their supply chains.
Authorities have also reported the rescue of abducted individuals from forest hideouts and the dismantling of suspected criminal bases in several areas within the state.
However, residents in affected areas continue to express their concern regarding the frequent attacks and kidnappings, calling for a persistent security presence to deter further incidents.
The Army emphasized that this recent operation reflects its ongoing commitment to identifying and neutralizing criminal hideouts while applying pressure on armed factions operating within the state.
