According to a statement issued by the state police spokesman, Eno Ikoedem, the arrests were made following an investigation, and the suspects will face charges in the family court as stipulated by laws pertaining to juvenile justice and child protection.

The statement emphasized, "The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the public about the viral bullying case that has sparked widespread concern and reactions across the state.

"Following an in-depth and meticulous investigation, the Command confirms that all individuals directly involved have been identified, and those culpable have been arrested and are set to be charged in family court according to existing laws on juvenile justice and child protection.

"Initial investigations revealed that the incident started on Thursday, March 5, 2026, when two 14-year-old female students encountered a disagreement with another student. During this confrontation, the student allegedly made an offensive remark about the girls' deceased father, specifically saying, 'Ogun kill your papa.'

"Infuriated by the comment, the girls reportedly attacked the student after school hours. An intervening parent, who was there to pick up her son, was also assaulted by the two girls, who physically confronted and tore at her clothing. As a result, the school management expelled the girls due to their involvement in violent conduct.

"The following day, March 6, 2026, a revenge incident took place. The male student, whose mother had been assaulted, targeted the victim seen in the viral video, which was captured and shared by another student. Notably, the victim is the brother of the girls who had attacked his mother.

"In light of these events, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate establishment and strengthening of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across schools in Edo State to identify supervision gaps and apply lessons learned from this incident to prevent a recurrence.

"Furthermore, the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices has been mobilized to engage students and school administrators through advocacy and sensitization programs.

"The Command urges parents, guardians, and school authorities to take greater responsibility in the moral education and supervision of children, while advising students to avoid violence and address grievances through the proper channels.

"We appeal to the public to remain calm, assuring that proactive measures are being taken to ensure justice is achieved and that steps are implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future."

The law enforcement agency underscored its commitment to maintaining peace and protecting all residents, particularly children.
