Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, has categorically denied rumors that he has 'stepped aside and retired from active politics,' labeling these assertions as 'completely false and misleading.'
In a statement issued on Monday via his Media Office, Atiku emphasized that he had only participated in discussions with stakeholders from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State the previous Thursday, countering claims suggesting otherwise at the national level.
The statement mentioned, 'We wish to clarify that the information circulating on social media about a supposed meeting of His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, with ADC stakeholders, in which he purportedly decided to step back from politics, is completely fabricated and intentionally misconstrued.'
It continued, 'The Waziri Adamawa has not engaged with ADC stakeholders nationally in recent times. His last interaction was with ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State last Thursday.'
Atiku's media team reiterated that any decision concerning his political future would not be communicated through rumors, unverified sources, or fabricated claims. Such a critical decision would only be formally announced via the Atiku Media Office.
The statement further accused individuals peddling these rumors of attempting to destabilize political opposition, noting, 'This latest falsehood reflects a coordinated disinformation strategy aimed at sowing confusion, undermining momentum, and misleading the Nigerian populace. It appears that only the government and its representatives would initiate such a desperate narrative due to their apprehensions regarding the future.'
Moreover, it contended that those undermining the political landscape were anti-democratic elements trying to disrupt political mobilization. It declared, 'We assert unequivocally that this mischief originates from anti- democratic factions who are deeply unsettled by the growing nationwide consensus to save Nigeria from the current administration's failures.'
Concluding, Abubakar urged his supporters to stay resilient and disregard the misinformation. 'We, therefore, encourage supporters of Atiku Abubakar, members of the ADC, and all patriotic Nigerians to categorically reject this false news and concentrate on our collective mission to restore and revitalize our nation,' the statement concluded.
