In a closed-door meeting held on Tuesday, former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar discussed pressing issues related to the country's electoral processes with former military ruler General Ibrahim Babangida.
Post-meeting, Atiku voiced his concerns about the electoral inconsistencies he perceives, emphasizing that the current hybrid approach of blending manual and electronic methods for result transmission by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) might erode public trust and lead to widespread confusion.
Atiku articulated his sentiments, stating, "The ongoing use of both manual and electronic systems in transmitting election results poses a risk to public confidence and could create significant confusion. It's vital to preserve the integrity of our elections to uphold the people's trust in the democratic process."
He called for a unified front among opposition parties and highlighted the efforts of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to enhance its organizational structure throughout the nation.
Atiku remarked, "The ADC is diligently working on solidifying its grassroots and state-level operations. This is crucial for effective mobilization and internal unity, allowing our party to effectively contribute to Nigeria's democracy."
