Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who is aspiring for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that he will fully support whoever is nominated as the party's candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

Abubakar also addressed concerns that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) might pose challenges to the ADC, asserting that the party continues to attract new members across the country.

The INEC had previously announced that it would cease communications with the leadership of the ADC and would not monitor the party's national convention scheduled for April 14. This decision was based on a court ruling.

However, the ADC has contested the INEC's interpretation of the ruling and affirmed its intention to proceed with its planned convention and other party activities.

In an interview with DW Hausa, Atiku suggested that external forces with vested interests were behind the party's current challenges, implying that its growing popularity made it a target.

Regarding the presidential nomination within the ADC, Abubakar reiterated his commitment to endorse the chosen candidate. He drew a parallel to his experience in the PDP, where multiple aspirants competed for the ticket.

He highlighted the ADC as a youth-oriented party, emphasizing its dedication to including young people and women in its agenda. Abubakar noted that a significant number of individuals seeking elective positions at various levels are young people.

When questioned about his willingness to support a youth presidential candidate, Atiku responded affirmatively, expressing his personal fulfillment and desire for the future of younger generations.

He conveyed optimism that Nigerians are seeking a change, citing the current economic hardships and security issues as reasons.

Abubakar linked the persistent insecurity, particularly in the northern regions, to widespread youth unemployment and inadequate access to education. He observed that education has been neglected, with insufficient efforts to ensure school enrollment and limited job opportunities for graduates.

He further alleged that corruption is pervasive within government circles, suggesting that officials are turning a blind eye due to their own involvement in corrupt practices.
