In a significant political development as the 2027 general elections approach, two sons of ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar have announced their plans to contest for various National Assembly positions in Adamawa State.
Adamu Atiku, the eldest son and a former commissioner of works and energy development in Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's administration, is reportedly targeting the senatorial seat for Adamawa South. In contrast, Mohammed Atiku Abubakar, who is known as a business mogul, is aiming to represent Jada/Mayo- Belwa/Ganye/Toungo federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
Both candidates will run under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the same party their father is seeking to use for his presidential bid.
Shehu Yohanna, the state chairman of the ADC, confirmed that the party welcomes the brothers enthusiastically and assures them of the party's full support. He mentioned that Adamu Atiku has already resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and has registered with the ADC in his local ward in Jada.
Mohammed Atiku has also registered with the ADC earlier and is prepared to run for the parliamentary seat representing Jada, Ganye, Mayo-belwa, and Toungo in the upcoming national elections scheduled for 2027.
Yohanna emphasized that both individuals, as citizens, have every right to pursue their desired political positions and remarked that they would receive all the necessary backing to help fulfill their ambitions.
