Abba Abubakar, the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has stated that his choice to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term is an individual decision rooted in conscience, despite differing political alignments within his family circle.
Abubakar, who serves as the founder and chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), made these remarks during a media briefing held in the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja). He acknowledged that political stances differing from those of close relatives naturally attract public scrutiny, but maintained that independent judgment remains a fundamental right.
"Political conviction is a matter of personal judgement, conscience and the freedom of every individual to make independent choices," Abubakar stated, adding that he respects divergent viewpoints and expects similar respect for his own stance.
What is the focus of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation?
The HBTO is a political mobilization platform designed to unite citizens who believe in the governance and reform programs championed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration under President Tinubu. Abubakar conceded that the current economic reforms have introduced temporary hardships for many citizens, but emphasized that these policies are necessary for long-term national development.
He highlighted several government interventions aimed at easing economic pressure, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which grants interest-free loans to tertiary education students. Furthermore, he noted infrastructure upgrades in road networks and increased financial allocations to state governments via the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), which have enhanced fiscal stability for sub-national entities.
To directly alleviate transport challenges, the HBTO leader announced the deployment of an initial fleet of ten luxury buses in Abuja, with rollout plans extending to other regions. He also revealed intentions to execute a nationwide grassroots mobilization campaign spanning the six geopolitical zones, starting with a major rally in the federal capital.
How is the group collaborating with political stakeholders?
Abubakar confirmed that the organization is actively working alongside the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to secure electoral success for the president in the capital and Rivers State by 2027. He emphasized that the group's strategy focuses on building a disciplined grassroots network rather than mere political spectacle.
"Our organisation is preparing for a major political mobilisation exercise in Rivers State next week," Abubakar said, reaffirming the group's commitment to engaging community leaders, women organizations, and youth groups nationwide to support the administration's objectives.
