Police in Mexico City have initiated a broad search operation for a mother-in- law suspected of committing what has been described as an "execution" of a former Miss Universe. The incident, captured on video, occurred on April 15th.
The suspect, identified as Erika Maria “N,” allegedly disappeared after the shooting death of 27-year-old Carolina Flores Gomez, who previously held the Miss Teen Universe title. Reports suggest the motive may stem from jealousy over the victim's relationship with her son.
Security footage from inside Gomez's residence in the upscale Polanco district of Mexico City shows the former beauty queen heading to the back of the house to fetch a drink for her mother-in-law. The suspect is seen following closely behind.
Moments later, six gunshots are heard. The victim's husband, Alejandro Gomez, enters the frame holding their infant child and questions his mother about firing the weapon.
"She made me angry," the alleged shooter is quoted as responding. "You're mine and she stole you."
Authorities reported that Alejandro Gomez did not immediately report the shooting, waiting until the following day. By that time, his mother, now considered the primary suspect, had already left the residence and gone into hiding.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect.
According to the Spanish news outlet Debate, a close associate of the deceased beauty queen stated that Flores Gomez had experienced persistent harassment from her mother-in-law, particularly since becoming pregnant. The friend recounted a conversation where Flores Gomez expressed distress over the situation.
"Ay, she doesn’t like me," Flores Gomez reportedly said. "I don’t know, she’s never liked me. Since I became pregnant it has gotten worse, she agitates me a lot."
Carolina Flores Gomez was crowned Miss Teen Universe for the Baja region in 2017.
