Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, has expressed his amusement at the rumors surrounding his alleged defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), clarifying that he has not made any official announcement regarding such a move.

In comments made following the inauguration of 17 new Permanent Secretaries at the Government House in Bauchi, Mohammed remarked that the discussions about his possible shift to another party highlight his political relevance and stature. While he refrained from making a definitive statement about his future with the PDP, he acknowledged the attention the rumors have garnered.

Speculation has arisen linking Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ forum, with a potential transition to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Discussing the matter shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, he stated, "I find it amusing that even when I have not said anything officially, people are already discussing me as if I have moved."

He further noted that the interest in his political trajectory denotes his role as a significant political figure. "It illustrates the level of attention and relevance associated with my position. I am now regarded as a global personality all of a sudden," he expressed.

The governor indicated he would provide additional insights during an interview with Channels Television later the same evening at 7pm, advising reporters to hold their questions until then. He reiterated, "I have not moved; they are claiming I have defected."

Addressing the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Mohammed urged them to maintain high ethical standards and to avoid any corrupt practices in their official capacities. He affirmed, "This administration will not tolerate corruption or any actions that could tarnish the image of the government."

He called on the officials to remain disciplined and stay clear of partisan politics during their tenure, while also encouraging them to mentor the younger generation of civil servants. Mohammed asserted that ongoing reforms in the civil service would depend on nurturing a new cohort that embodies ethics and professionalism.

Furthermore, he reassured retirees that his government is dedicated to resolving outstanding gratuity payments estimated at around N20 billion, revealing that disbursement of 13 years' worth of arrears commenced in January 2026.

The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Talatu Musa Umar, administered the oath of office to the newly appointed officials.
