Gunmen have reportedly taken seven family members and three other individuals from their homes in Unguwar Sabon-Titi, situated along Katari-Hayin Dam in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. This incident took place on Thursday night, April 2, 2026.
A local resident from Katari, Markus Yakubu, confirmed the latest abduction to newsmen via telephone on Friday morning. He stated that the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, infiltrated a compound and forcibly removed seven people who belonged to one family. Subsequently, they proceeded to an adjacent residence and took three more individuals.
According to Yakubu, the bandits operated without firing shots initially, but began discharging firearms after moving the captives away from the vicinity. He suggested that the proximity of the invaded house to the Katari Divisional Police Officer's residence might have influenced their cautious approach during the initial phase of the operation.
The abducted family members were identified as Jummai Amos, Barnabas Amos, Iko Amos, Baby Amos, Eunice Amos, Eshiwan Amos, and Godwin Amos. The three neighbours taken were identified as Bagudu Damisa, Evelyn Damisa, and Alfred Iriyo.
"The bandits came in large numbers and surrounded my neighbour’s house before some of them entered the compound and whisked away people, who are all members of one family. They later proceeded to the next house and carried three people," he recounted.
He further explained, "Actually, the house of the DPO of Katari is close to the house the bandits attacked, which I believe is why they didn’t shoot in order not to attract his attention."
Another community leader, who chose to remain anonymous, also corroborated the abduction report when contacted by phone. He mentioned receiving an urgent call about the invasion and attempting to alert security personnel in the area, but their lines were reportedly unreachable.
"The very moment I received the call that bandits had invaded two houses at Unguwar Sabon-Titi, I quickly tried to reach out to security operatives but their numbers are not connecting," the leader stated.
A security official from the affected area confirmed the incident and indicated that security forces were actively searching the surrounding forests to locate the bandits and ensure the safe return of all the victims.
Photographs obtained showed neighbours visiting the affected homes to offer support to the families of those abducted.
