Senator Barau I. Jibrin, who serves as the Deputy President of the Senate, has expressed his support for the recent move of the governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, into the All Progressives Congress (APC). Senator Barau emphasized that his political involvement is rooted in a desire to serve the people.

Governor Yusuf concluded his affiliation with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Friday, January 23, 2026.

He officially joined the APC on Monday, January 26, during a gathering that included Senator Barau and various dignitaries at the Kano Government House.

In a public statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau remarked that he intends to collaborate with Governor Yusuf along with all relevant stakeholders to tackle the challenges faced by Kano State.

Reflecting on his three decades of political service, Senator Barau reiterated that his motivations have always been centered around the welfare of the populace of Kano and Nigeria as a whole.

He stated, "By the grace of Allah (SWT), I have maintained my commitment to this cause and will continue to work towards the unity, advancement, and development of Kano State and the nation."

Barau warmly welcomed Governor Yusuf into the APC, describing it as Africa's largest political party, and expressed his dedication to the objectives set forth by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda, stating they aim to elevate governance in Nigeria to genuinely serve all citizens.
