Barau FC, the newcomers in the league, overturned an early deficit to claim a 2-1 victory against Plateau United in the rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 28 match held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on March 2.
Originally scheduled for an earlier date, the fixture was delayed due to Barau FC’s prior week 25 match against Rivers United on February 25 in Port Harcourt, which resulted in a narrow 0-1 defeat for them.
Despite their recent slip against Rivers United, who are currently completing their outstanding fixtures and represented Nigeria in the Champions League, Barau FC quickly regained momentum with a hard-won match against Plateau United, a team that had also enjoyed a strong run before their defeat to El- Kanemi Warriors in week 26.
In yesterday’s encounter, Vincent Temitope from the CHAN Eagles put Plateau United ahead with a goal in the 5th minute. However, Henry Ezeonye equalized for Barau FC in the 37th minute, and the teams went into halftime on level terms.
As the match approached its conclusion, it appeared a draw was imminent until Stanley Chukwudi Oganbor, a former striker at Lobi Stars, scored in the 86th minute, securing all three points for the “Maliya boys.” This win propelled Barau FC to the 10th spot on the league table with 37 points, alleviating their relegation concerns.
