Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a non-working day to mark the Golden Jubilee of Bauchi State's establishment.
Bauchi State was among the entities created on February 3, 1976, during the administration of the then Head of State, Yakubu Gowon.
This declaration was communicated in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, and shared with newsmen in the state.
The holiday is applicable to all civil servants in both public and private sectors within Bauchi State, with the exclusion of personnel providing essential services.
Gidado clarified that the purpose of the work-free day is to allow citizens to actively participate in the events organised for the state's 50th anniversary.
The governor reflected on the state's journey over the past half-century, acknowledging its accomplishments, reinforcing unity, and reaffirming a commitment to peace, progress, and effective governance.
He called upon the populace to use this occasion to offer prayers for the continued peace, prosperity, and advancement of Bauchi State.
As part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations, Governor Mohammed has also mandated all residents to plant a minimum of one tree to commemorate this significant milestone.
This tree-planting initiative aims to foster environmental sustainability, combat desertification, mitigate the impacts of global warming, and safeguard the ecosystem for future generations.
The governor further urged residents to celebrate responsibly, uphold peace and order, and demonstrate attributes of patriotism, environmental awareness, and shared responsibility.
He reiterated his administration's dedication to development that includes all segments of society, governance best practices, and policies designed to enhance the well-being of citizens and fortify state institutions.
While extending congratulations to the residents on this historic occasion, the governor encouraged widespread participation in the Golden Jubilee events to ensure a meaningful and impactful celebration.
Personnel in essential service sectors were, however, instructed to continue their duties to ensure public safety and security.
