A student in SS1, identified as Oryiman Afeese, has sadly passed away following an accident while climbing a mango tree in Naka, located in the Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to Emmanuel Atema, a user on Facebook, the unfortunate incident took place on Sunday, March 1, 2026, when the young student attempted to pick mangoes from the tree in his community.
In a heartfelt post, Emmanuel shared, "Yesterday, death cast a dark shadow over Splendid Secondary School, Naka, taking away one of its own, Master Oryiman Afeese."
Sir Barnabas Hanmeza, the principal of the school, revealed that the tragedy unfolded when the boy fell from the mango tree, leading to his untimely demise.
"He was a child brimming with dreams and a future that was abruptly cut short. No words can truly express the sorrow that now envelops his classmates, particularly those in SS1, who had only yesterday shared joyous moments, lessons, and aspirations with him."
He continued to express condolences, stating, "We beseech God, in His abundant mercy, to comfort Splendid Secondary School, Naka, its management, instructors, students, and most notably his family. May He provide them with the fortitude to endure this profound loss. Though he is no longer with us, he will live on in our memories."
The incident has left the community and the school in deep mourning, reflecting the painful impact of such a tragic loss.
