Bill Cosby Confirms Having 7 Quaalude Prescriptions for Drugging Women

Bill Cosby, the 88-year-old comedian and actor, revealed in a deposition that he had received prescriptions for Quaaludes, which he intended to use on women prior to sexual encounters. This revelation may impact an ongoing lawsuit from a woman who alleges Cosby drugged and assaulted her in the 1970s.

Bill Cosby, the renowned comedian and actor, may be embroiled in new legal issues following his recent admission regarding Quaalude prescriptions. In a deposition, Cosby disclosed that he had been prescribed recreational Quaaludes with the intention of using them on women before engaging in sexual activities, according to reports by TMZ.

Cosby, who is now 88 years old, stated under oath that he obtained the prescription, which he renewed seven times, from a gynecologist acquaintance during a poker game more than fifty years ago, specifically before 1972.

This information is expected to be relevant in a lawsuit brought by Donna Motsinger, who alleges that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1972 while she worked as a waitress at a restaurant in California.

TMZ reported that the gynecologist who provided the Quaaludes, Dr. Leroy Amar, had his medical license revoked by California authorities in 1979 due to misconduct.

Andrew Wyatt, who acted as a crisis manager for Cosby, defended the actor during an appearance on “Jesse Weber Live.” He revealed that he directly asked Cosby about the allegations against him, to which Cosby consistently denied any wrongdoing. Wyatt recounted, “He said, ‘Andrew, I wouldn’t take you through the valley of shame.’”

Cosby did acknowledge the historical context of Quaaludes in earlier times, sharing, “He said, ‘Yes, I had quaaludes. Quaaludes were called ‘disco biscuits,’ and all entertainers had them,’” according to Wyatt.

Although Cosby gained fame as a groundbreaking stand-up comic and the lead of NBC’s “The Cosby Show,” he faced serious allegations of sexual assault, which came to public attention in 2014 through a viral video featuring another comedian.

In 2018, a Pennsylvania jury found Cosby guilty of aggravated indecent assault, convicting him for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in Philadelphia in 2004; Constand had previously looked up to him as a mentor.

However, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Cosby's conviction in 2021 due to a violation of his due-process rights, leading to his release from prison.

A report by Mirror US indicated that Cosby described using prescription Quaaludes from Dr. Leroy Amar. A portion of his deposition was cited in new legal documents submitted by one of his accusers.

The report alleged that a statement from the deposition noted, “At his deposition, he was able to recall events from decades ago ... the name of the OBGYN who gave him quaaludes.” Reports asserted that Cosby refilled his Quaalude prescription seven times.

The Quaaludes in question were described by TMZ as ‘round, white pills.’ For those unfamiliar, Quaaludes, known chemically as methaqualone, are potent sedative-hypnotic drugs that gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s for treating sleep disorders and anxiety.

The legal filings revealed that Cosby was questioned by an attorney, “When you got the Quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these Quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?” Cosby reportedly answered, “Yes.”
