On Sunday, Manchester United marked their return to form with a convincing 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the English Premier League.
The match saw both teams competing for valuable points to secure a position in the top three, but it was Manchester United who claimed the three points, with Bruno Fernandes playing a pivotal role in their success.
After no goals were scored in the first half, United found the net just eight minutes after the break. Fernandes delivered a precise corner, which was converted with a header, giving United the lead in the 53rd minute.
Aston Villa quickly responded, with Ross Barkley scoring to equalize, putting them back into the hunt for points.
However, Fernandes continued to exert his influence on the game, providing a crucial pass that sliced through the Villa defense. Matheus Cunha finished the chance cleanly, putting United back in front in the 71st minute.
With this assist, Fernandes achieved his 16th of the season, thus breaking the club record previously held by David Beckham, who had set the benchmark of 15 assists 26 years ago.
The victory was later cemented by substitute Benjamin Šeško, who scored in the 81st minute with a deflected shot, extending the lead to 3-1.
Šeško’s goal marked his eighth in just ten appearances and his fourth as a substitute. This latest win adds to United's impressive home record, where they have now secured five consecutive victories at Old Trafford.
This result solidifies Manchester United's position in third place on the league table with a total of 54 points from 30 matches, three points clear of Aston Villa, as they strive to reclaim their spot in the UEFA Champions League after two years absent from the competition.
