Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced an increase of $2 million in the prize money awarded to the winners of the Champions League and Confederation Cup.
For the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, the victorious team will now earn $6 million, representing an increase of 50%. Meanwhile, the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup will receive $4 million, which is a 100% increase from previous amounts.
During Motsepe's five-year tenure leading CAF, the prize pool for the CAF Champions League has risen from $2.5 million to $6 million, marking a total increase of 140%.
Similarly, during this period, the prize money for the CAF Confederation Cup has grown from $1.25 million to $4 million, a remarkable 220% hike.
These recent adjustments elevate the collective prize money and solidarity contributions for African clubs to over $42 million per season, reflecting a 114% increase since Motsepe's election as CAF President.
In comparison, in 2021, CAF distributed a total of $18.8 million in prize money to clubs across Africa.
