The California Supreme Court has officially denied rapper Tory Lanez's petition for a review of his criminal conviction, thus upholding his 10-year prison sentence for the shooting incident involving fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

On February 25, the court dismissed Lanez's defense appeal seeking a reexamination of his conviction connected to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, as per the latest judicial update.

This ruling comes three months after the California Court of Appeals confirmed his conviction. The case relates to the incident in July 2020, where Lanez shot Megan during a dispute in the Hollywood Hills. In December 2022, he was found guilty on several charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possessing a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

The 33-year-old Canadian rapper received a 10-year prison sentence in August 2022. Despite maintaining his innocence, Lanez's attempts to challenge the verdict and obtain a new trial have been unsuccessful, although he can seek parole starting August 2029.

In a December 2025 conversation with NBC News, Lanez reiterated his claim of being wrongfully convicted, expressing that the new evidence available since his trial has been substantial.

"I believe not only that I was wrongfully convicted, but the amount of new evidence that has emerged since that trial, I think, has been overwhelming," he stated.

When asked about any message for Megan, Lanez conveyed that he does not harbor feelings of hatred towards her and would prefer to communicate directly instead of through media.

"I think that I wouldn't say something directly to her; I would like that moment to happen in person," he remarked. "We've both gone through a lot. There's this misconception that I have animosity towards her, but I don’t. I’m genuinely past that. I’m at a point of healing in my life and taking responsibility for my mistakes. When discussing my case, I don't mean to target her; I'm merely asking for a fair review of my situation and the evidence presented."

Tory Lanez is currently serving his sentence at the California Men's Colony in San Luis Obispo, California.
