Calm has been reestablished at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, following a period of unrest linked to activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the nearby Agbede Village.
There were reports of disturbances when EFCC operatives executed their official duties, prompting demonstrations by students. In response to the upheaval, students set tires ablaze and obstructed roads, which impeded both vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement.
Halimat Garba, the Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, confirmed that normality has returned to the institution and the affected areas. She stated that the protests did not occur on the school's campus but in the adjacent community, asserting that no students had been detained during the EFCC's actions.
The management of the institution ensured that students scheduled for examinations could proceed with their papers without disruption, affirming that academic activities continue as usual.
Kwara State Polytechnic extended its gratitude to security agencies and its internal security personnel for their swift actions and professionalism in managing the circumstances. The institution also acknowledged the majority of students for their peaceful conduct during the protests.
Garba appealed to the public, especially those using the Old Jebba Road, to continue with their daily routines without fear or panic, assuring that the main road is safe for travel. The polytechnic remains dedicated to ensuring the safety, well-being, and academic success of its students and staff.
