The Kaduna State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended Governor Uba Sani, recognizing him as a responsible leader dedicated to fulfilling his promises since taking office.
This acknowledgment was made by Rev Caleb Ma’aji, the Chairman, during an Iftar hosted by the Governor for Christian leaders at Government House, coinciding with Ramadan.
Rev Ma’aji mentioned that at a similar gathering the previous year, CAN had urged the Governor to reinstate government-funded Christian pilgrimages to Jerusalem, which had been halted in 2015.
He noted that the Governor had agreed to investigate the reasons behind the cessation of such sponsorship before making any decisions regarding their appeal.
During the event, Rev Ma’aji highlighted that 49 individuals had successfully traveled to Jerusalem this year, although one was delayed due to a clerical error involving his name, but he would soon embark on the pilgrimage.
The CAN Chairman further recalled their request for the state to construct key roads, specifically the PAN Drive-Television Garage-Sabon Tasha road, Samrada- Romi-Karatudu Gonin Gora, and Nasarawa-UNTL-Zenith Bank Kakuri roads. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction work, which he claimed was being carried out to high standards with proper drainage systems.
Rev Ma’aji emphasized their continuous prayers for Governor Uba Sani, asking for wisdom, divine guidance, and support as he steers Kaduna State toward progress and development.
He expressed confidence that the Governor is committed to leaving Kaduna State improved compared to his entry, pointing to considerable achievements in his two and a half years in office.
At the gathering, Bishop Joseph Yari, a former head of the Kaduna State Christians Pilgrims Welfare Board, also expressed gratitude to the Governor for reviving the pilgrimage program. He noted that the Kaduna contingent prayed for sustained peace in both the state and across Nigeria during their Holy Land visit.
In response, Governor Uba Sani remarked that restoring state sponsorship for Christian pilgrimage resonated with his administration’s principles of justice and fairness.
He portrayed a vision of restoring Kaduna State to its historical reputation as a diverse haven for all Nigerians, lamenting that ongoing ethnic and religious unrest undermines this legacy. The Governor committed to addressing these challenges decisively.
He explained that he regularly hosts Iftar dinners with leaders from various faiths to gather input on government initiatives and policies.
This year's Iftar bears particular significance as both Christian and Muslim communities observe their respective fasting periods. The Governor appealed to religious leaders for their support of his government and President Bola Tinubu, aiming to deliver the dividends of democracy effectively and foster sustainable development.
