Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, the APC candidate for the Kuje Area Council in the upcoming council elections scheduled for February 21, has initiated a charitable effort by donating relief supplies to those affected by the recent clash between farmers and herders in the Gudun-Karya community.

On Monday, during his visit to the affected area, Shekwolo distributed various essential items to the leaders of both the Fulani community and local residents. The items he provided included bags of rice and beans, mattresses, sleeping mats, rubber buckets, vegetable oil, palm oil, seasoning cubes, and a cash donation which he did not disclose.

While expressing his sorrow regarding the incident, Shekwolo remarked that he was profoundly taken aback by the news of the conflict. He lamented the significant loss of life and property, emphasizing the urgent need for both herders and farmers to engage in dialogue to foster peaceful coexistence.

"We must endeavor to live harmoniously with each other, irrespective of our ethnic, tribal, or religious distinctions," Shekwolo remarked. He further stated, "Farmers and herders should view themselves as part of a single community."

He condemned the violent acts and the destruction of property, labeling them as "unnecessary." Additionally, he urged the traditional and community leaders in the region to promote a culture of tolerance and understanding among their constituents.

Shekwolo concluded his visit by offering prayers for the souls lost in the clashes and commended the efforts of security agencies for their quick actions in restoring peace in the area.

In turn, both the community and Fulani leaders expressed their gratitude for Shekwolo's timely assistance and wished him success in the forthcoming elections.

This donation comes in the wake of a violent incident in Gudun-Karya last Wednesday, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals and the destruction of numerous homes. The altercation was reportedly ignited by a disagreement between a farmer and a herder over the alleged damage of a cassava farm by livestock.
