Customs Officials Allegedly Kill Driver in Osun State

A driver was reportedly shot dead by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service on the Osogbo–Iwo Road in Osun State. The incident took place near a police checkpoint and has drawn significant local attention.

A driver, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was allegedly shot dead by officials of the Nigeria Customs Service on the Osogbo–Iwo Road in Osun State.

The shooting occurred around 10 am on Sunday, March 15, 2026, close to a police roadblock in the Onibueja area of Ido-Osun.

Reports indicate that the operatives, who were dressed in civilian clothes, were chasing the driver from the Iwo side of the road.

A local resident named Sunday recounted that many people gathered at the scene following the incident.

"The man was traveling toward the Osogbo direction from the Iwo end when he was fired upon by security personnel in plain clothes," he explained to Punch.

"He died right there in his vehicle, which was peppered with bullets. The incident took place near a police checkpoint," Sunday added.

He expressed the community's anger, noting that the assailants were not in uniform, making it difficult to identify them. "People were very furious about what happened," he remarked.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating the suspected shooters were indeed Customs personnel.

"The shooting occurred, and those who were allegedly responsible are Customs operatives. We have detained two individuals related to the case and will provide more information to the press shortly," Ojelabi confirmed.
