Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as the Vice Presidential candidate for the Labour Party during the 2023 elections, has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may face challenges regarding its presidential flagbearer for the upcoming 2027 elections.
In a recent discussion on Trust TV, Baba-Ahmed, who ran alongside Peter Obi, pointed out that the ADC currently lacks a prominent figure comparable to the deceased former president Muhammadu Buhari or Bola Tinubu, both of whom could unite the party in choosing a candidate. He asserted that should the ADC select either Atiku Abubakar, Obi, or Rotimi Amaechi as its standard-bearer, it would likely provoke dissent among party members who might argue that there are more suitable candidates available.
He elaborated, stating, "Firstly, they do not possess a Buhari in the ADC. As it stands, if Atiku secures the ticket, others will contest it. If Amaechi is chosen, dissent will arise. The same applies to Obi.
"Secondly, they lack a figure like Tinubu, who was dedicated, well-resourced, and brought significant experience to the table. The ADC lacks that leadership quality.
"Lastly, there is no equivalent to former president Goodluck Jonathan in the situation. Jonathan was elected in 2011 with a commitment to Northern leaders that he would not run for re-election in 2015. His adherence to this promise is remembered, and it influenced northern sentiments toward returning to power."
A video of Baba-Ahmed's insights is available for viewing, showcasing his perspectives on the potential challenges within the ADC as the 2027 elections approach.
