The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has expressed his admiration for Governor Dauda Lawal's efforts in obtaining armoured personnel carriers, surveillance drones, and additional equipment for troops stationed in Zamfara State.

During a ceremony at the Government House in Gusau on Wednesday, the governor presented the armoured vehicles and various military gear to the troops.

According to a statement from the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the introduction of 25 advanced Armoured Personnel Carriers will significantly bolster troop protection during missions in high-risk regions throughout Zamfara.

The statement further highlighted that other acquired equipment by the Zamfara State Government includes an 80-meter endurance surveillance drone with a range of 50 kilometers, capable of operating continuously for eight hours.

In his address at the event, Governor Lawal emphasized that the Defence Minister's presence signifies the strong collaboration between the federal government and the Zamfara State administration, showcasing a united approach to reinforce and uphold lawful authority.

He noted, “Zamfara has struggled through prolonged security challenges that disrupted daily life. Rural communities encountered instability, farmers faced uncertainty, and movement along major roadways was often perilous. Markets suffered, which directly impacted productivity, income, and public confidence. These issues have been widespread, affecting the daily lives of the citizens and the state's economy.

“Under our Rescue Mission initiative, we transitioned from uncoordinated responses to well-structured reforms. The establishment of the Zamfara State Security Trust Fund has created a dependable framework for providing logistical support to security personnel. We have intensified our cooperation with the Armed Forces, police, and other agencies through consistent coordination. Additionally, we implemented the Community Protection Guards to enhance localized intelligence gathering and early-warning capabilities.

“The strategies we have employed aim to ensure that security operations are sustained by financial discipline, legal clarity, operational coordination, and logistics support. Our administration is committed to providing all necessary logistical assistance to our security agencies on the ground.

“Upon launching the Homegrown Community Protection Guards, we equipped them with 60 brand new, fully equipped Hilux operational vehicles and motorcycles to ensure comprehensive coverage, prompt response, and effective services by first responders.

“We have also distributed 150 new Hilux vehicles to various security forces, including the Nigeria Police, Department of Security Services, NSCDC, and others. Furthermore, 20 Toyota Buffaloes were acquired—10 armoured and 10 regular. Over 600 specialized motorcycles have been made available for swift responses in challenging terrains. These initiatives have greatly contributed to recent successes in our security operations.

“Moreover, by integrating unmanned aerial systems, we have expanded our reconnaissance capabilities. This is why the drones are so essential. Aerial surveillance enhances situational awareness, supports terrain assessments, and facilitates better coordination among command centres and field units. Real- time intelligence reinforces decision-making and minimizes operational vulnerabilities.

“To the military leaders present today, these resources symbolize structured public investment and mutual trust. Deployments must be guided by intelligence and strategically prioritized. It is crucial to adhere strictly to maintenance schedules and uphold operational discipline without compromise. The long-term effectiveness of these assets relies on professional management.

“To our officers and soldiers facing challenging circumstances, we recognize your sacrifices and extend support to your families. The government’s duty extends beyond mere acknowledgment; it encompasses providing the essential protective and operational tools to enable you to execute your duties effectively. Ensuring your safety also protects our communities.

Earlier, the Defence Minister remarked that the Zamfara state government’s procurement of the armoured vehicles exemplifies the governor's dedication to security issues.

“I am optimistic that if we maintain this momentum during the second term, Zamfara will transform impressively, resembling Dubai.

“The safeguarding of lives and properties transcends political party affiliations and divides, which is why I am particularly pleased to be here. You have been a state executive committed to inclusivity, demonstrating clarity and resolve in your actions.

“It takes significant courage and firm resolve for state leadership to allocate substantial resources towards enhancing public security. Notably, this expenditure is already settled, sending a clear message to potential wrongdoers.”
