In anticipation of the upcoming 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, just 12 days away, event organizers have unveiled the prize distribution for the elite 42km race, which totals $250,000.
This financial incentive applies to both male and female competitors in the elite category, affirming the marathon’s dedication to fostering competitive excellence and attracting top-tier athletes while upholding its World Athletics Gold Label status.
According to the established prize breakdown, the champion of the elite 42km race will walk away with $50,000, with the runner-up earning $20,000. The athlete in third place will be awarded $15,000, while those finishing fourth and fifth will receive $12,000 and $10,000, respectively.
Further down the standings, the sixth-place finisher will secure $8,000, while the seventh will earn $6,000, and the eighth-place competitor will gain $4,000. This setup is designed to encourage a wide competition among elite runners.
The substantial financial reward continues to be a significant draw for world- class marathon runners from countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Nigeria, and others, as they converge on Lagos for yet another thrilling edition of Africa’s largest road race.
Scheduled for Saturday, February 14, the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will introduce a new route that will commence at ORCA Mall, Victoria Island, and will traverse sections of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, concluding at the notable Eko Atlantic City.
