Displaced Person Ends Life in Benue Community

An internally displaced person (IDP), identified as Mr. Terzungwe Orbam, has died by suicide in Jato Aka, Benue State. The incident has sparked concerns about the mental well-being of displaced individuals in the region.

A resident of Jato Aka, located in the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, who was an internally displaced person (IDP), has reportedly taken his own life. The deceased has been identified as Mr. Terzungwe Orbam.

Mr. Orbam was reportedly displaced from the Ikyoawen community in Turan, an area that has frequently been affected by security issues.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Orbam acquired a poisonous substance from a local agrochemical vendor in Jato Aka.

He is said to have ingested the substance directly in front of the shop, subsequently collapsing and passing away before any medical assistance could be administered.

His body has since been moved to a mortuary.

The tragic event has brought to the forefront the challenges related to mental health among displaced populations in Benue State. Calls are being made for enhanced support and intervention services for those affected.
