Alignment with God is not about achieving flawlessness; it is about maintaining a posture of devotion. A heart that consistently turns towards God remains open to His restorative power.
There are times when individuals anticipate clear divine communication but encounter silence instead. Difficult periods marked by financial hardship, loss, emotional distress, or barrenness can lead to confusion rather than clarity. When one's capacity for discernment is hindered, it can feel as though they are distant from God, even during diligent seeking.
Marriage stands out as a critical area where divine alignment is frequently misunderstood or overlooked. Many believers assume that a marriage initiated with prayer will inherently maintain alignment. However, scripture mandates continuous submission to God's design for marriage, even amidst adversity.
Hebrews 13:4 states: “Marriage is honourable among all, and the bed undefiled.”
God has established fundamental principles for marriage:
1\. Believers are called to marry within the faith (2 Corinthians 6:14).
2\. Marriage is a covenant, not a contract (Malachi 2:16).
3\. Husbands are instructed to lead with love (Ephesians 5:23).
4\. Wives are called to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord, and both partners are expected to yield and submit to one another.
5\. Both spouses are encouraged to practice love, sacrifice, and faithfulness (Ephesians 5:22–26).
When marital conflict arises, believers sometimes abandon spiritual alignment, resorting to cultural or reactive responses. Emotional pain can obscure spiritual discernment, making it challenging to perceive God's work beneath the surface.
Several crises can significantly test marital discernment, including infidelity, destructive external interference, abuse (physical or emotional), the escalation of conflict into legal or public arenas, and persistent disrespect.
In such moments, God might not communicate in conventional ways, but His presence and activity remain constant.
Difficult marital seasons can serve as divine tools to:
1\. Cultivate humility and attentive hearts (Genesis 21:12).
2\. Deepen the understanding of Christ-like love.
3\. Foster greater reliance on prayer and dependence on God.
4\. Expose underlying pride, fear, or selfishness.
5\. Strengthen commitment to godly principles when faced with provocation.
6\. Teach the discernment between mere appearances and divine actions (Matthew 1:20–21).
Alignment does not imply ignoring pain or condoning abuse or injustice. Instead, it calls for seeking God with humility, wisdom, and obedience, even when clarity seems elusive.
Provoking the Miraculous in Seasons of Impossibility
During a moment of personal crisis, the Lord's voice became clear: “I have called you to be a teacher, to teach My people.” My initial reaction was one of resistance, questioning my suitability for such a role. Despite fervent prayer and attempts to dismiss the calling, many believers struggle to hear God clearly because they haven't cultivated their spiritual senses through consistent engagement with His Word, where His voice is most distinctly heard.
My financial situation deteriorated, leading to a complete surrender. In this state, I applied for a PhD, surprisingly receiving three offers from UK universities. This marked a turning point, and everything began to transform.
God deliberately guided me toward enhancing my teaching and writing skills, leading to the emergence of my teaching ministry. Concurrently, I was offered a research consulting role at University College London (UCL), followed by opportunities with other esteemed institutions, including Empire College London and Kingston College. These engagements expanded rapidly, bringing natural financial provision.
What once seemed impossible became clear: aligning with God's purpose opens doors unattainable through human effort alone.
Life presents moments where conventional solutions are inadequate. Scripture refers to these as 'impossibilities,' situations requiring divine intervention.
The Christian faith is inherently supernatural, with miracles being natural expressions of God's kingdom.
1 Corinthians 4:20 states: “The kingdom of God is not in word but in power.”
The Bible is replete with accounts of impossible circumstances that were miraculously resolved by God.
Examples include:
1\. The healing of the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda (John 5).
2\. The miraculous healing of the man born blind (John 9).
3\. Lazarus' resurrection from the dead (John 11).
4\. The healing of the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5).
5\. The miraculous birth of Isaac to Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 21).
6\. The parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14).
Miracles often serve as God's communication in times of limitation.
Conditions That Foster the Miraculous
1\. Salvation, the primary miracle (2 Corinthians 5:17).
2\. Faith that acts upon God's word (Matthew 17:20).
3\. A spirit of willingness and obedience.
4\. Love as the foundation for faith's operation (Galatians 5:6).
5\. Dependence through prayer.
6\. God's sovereign mercy.
Humility facilitates miracles, while pride and passivity hinder expectation. While principles guide daily conduct, miracles frequently occur where principles alone are insufficient.
Rising Through Kingdom Principles
Alignment with God is essential for enduring spiritual fruitfulness. God's actions are consistent, not capricious.
Romans 2:11 reminds us: “God shows no partiality.”
Psalm 138:2 declares: “You have exalted Your word above Your name.”
Hannah's narrative exemplifies this principle. Her breakthrough wasn't solely from distress but from a moment of alignment, prayer, surrender, and faith.
True alignment encompasses:
1\. Dependence through prayer.
2\. Honesty and transparency before God.
3\. Deep engagement with Scripture.
4\. Obedience to revealed principles.
Grace does not negate principles; it empowers the adherence to them.
Therefore, every believer must align with these fundamental Kingdom principles. The voice of principles is often present, yet some anticipate divine messages solely through dreams, visions, or prophecy. Principles speak, guide, and establish leaders.
To fully realize God's purposes and promises, our lives must align with these core Kingdom principles:
1\. Prayer – James 5:16.
2\. The will of God – Romans 12:1–2.
3\. Honour – Proverbs 3:9 (honouring the Lord); Matthew 15:4 (honouring parents).
4\. Giving – Luke 6:38.
5\. Service – Romans 12:11 (“not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord”).
6\. Fellowship with other believers – Hebrews 10:25.
7\. Holiness and purity – Hebrews 12:14.
8\. Forgiveness – Ephesians 4:32 (“Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you”).
9\. Mentorship and spiritual accountability (e.g., Paul and Timothy, Elijah and Elisha, Moses and Joshua).
10\. Marriage between opposite genders within the faith.
Consider which of these principles have been neglected or disregarded, with the assumption that grace would compensate for disobedience. Scripture teaches that grace does not excuse compromise but rather trains us.
Titus 2:12 notes: “For the grace of God… teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.”
Restoring Broken Alignment
Alignment can be lost subtly. Scripture provides examples of individuals who lost their alignment with God's will, either temporarily or permanently:
1\. Saul lost it permanently due to partial obedience.
2\. Jonah experienced a temporary loss of alignment through direct disobedience.
3\. Samson nearly lost it permanently due to moral compromise.
4\. Abraham temporarily deviated by taking Hagar under pressure from Sarah.
5\. Peter momentarily returned to his fishing business, losing alignment briefly.
However, restoration is always possible.
John 15:5 states: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Alignment with God is characterized by one's posture, not necessarily perfection. A heart continuously turning toward God remains receptive to restoration.
Divine alignment serves as the foundation for divine manifestation. When alignment is re-established, fruitfulness ensues.
Final Reflection
Alignment is not a singular event but a continuous journey of trust, surrender, and obedience. When we align our lives with God's will, even the most severe trials become instruments of transformation.
Divine alignment remains the most effective path to divine manifestation.
