A startling incident unfolded in Edo State last Friday when a family, preparing to bury their departed loved one, nearly abandoned the proceedings after noticing her eyes were absent. The discovery was made when the family arrived at the morgue to retrieve the body for the funeral.

MC Oviakpo, a friend to the deceased's husband, recounted that upon inspecting the corpse, the family was shocked to find the eyes missing. When questioned, a mortuary attendant offered an explanation, suggesting that the eyes had dissolved due to the application of certain chemicals used in washing the body.

The family, however, rejected this explanation outright. They insisted that the husband should present his wife's body in its complete state as she was when they married, meaning her eyes must be intact for the funeral to proceed.

Following considerable debate, a doctor was summoned by the deceased woman's family. After conducting a thorough examination, the doctor confirmed that the eyes had been affected by the embalming chemicals and were also impacted by the nine-month period the body had spent in the mortuary. Satisfied with this medical assessment, the family agreed to proceed with the funeral arrangements.

A video detailing the events has been shared online.
