The Association of Jumma’at Mosque Imams in Nigeria has asserted that the country's security systems and other mechanisms have faltered, leading them to advocate for increased prayers to foster peace and stability nationwide.

Dr. Yusuf Abdullahi Yusuf, the Assistant Secretary of the Association, articulated this sentiment on Friday at a special prayer gathering for national peace and unity held at the Jos Central Mosque. The event convened Jumma’at Mosque imams and other religious figures from various parts of Plateau State.

The association underscored the critical role of imams, stating that unless they actively engage from the pulpit to pray and provide ethical guidance to the populace, the nation cannot overcome its current difficulties.

Yusuf elaborated that the prayer session aimed to remind imams of their duty to deliver sermons promoting peace, unity, and honesty, while also highlighting the importance of security within society.

He stated, "As humans, our technology has failed. Our individual efforts have proven insufficient. We reside in a nation with a security framework, yet it has proven ineffective. The country is grappling with severe issues, including economic hardship, ethno-religious conflicts, banditry, kidnappings, and various other forms of violence."

"We have the Almighty, who is ready to respond to our prayers and alter our circumstances. Through prayer, Allah will guide our security personnel in performing their duties and assist leaders in making righteous choices and sound decisions."

"The teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) are centered on unity, peace, security, and other virtues. We are utilizing this occasion to urge imams to make weekly congregational prayers for peace and unity a mandatory practice. With this dedication, we trust that Allah will accept your supplications," Yusuf concluded.
