EFCC Detains Individual for Alleged Currency Abuse on His Birthday in Enugu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, a 24-year-old palm kernel dealer, for allegedly misusing Naira notes during his birthday celebration. The arrest was prompted by a viral video that showcased the suspect's actions.

Operatives from the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have detained Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, who is also known by the nickname 'Easy-money', for his alleged misconduct involving the abuse of Naira notes during a birthday celebration.

The 24-year-old, who works as a dealer in palm kernels, was taken into custody following intelligence gathered through a viral video on social media. The video depicted him filming himself while mishandling Naira notes in a hotel room during his birthday festivities. This conduct violates Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, enacted in 2007.

After receiving the intelligence, the EFCC conducted a preliminary investigation, which led to identifying the suspect and locating his residence. Ikechukwu was arrested on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his home near the timber market in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State.

During the arrest, agents recovered a total of N81,700 (Eighty-one Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira), which is believed to be part of the currency that he was damaging.

The EFCC has stated that Ikechukwu will face charges in court once the investigation is fully completed.
