The court proceeding concerning Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, regarding alleged cybercrime and breaches of national security, has been deferred to April 23 due to his absence.
During the latest court session, Oluwole Aladejoye, the prosecutor, informed Justice Joyce Abdulmalik that El-Rufai is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC), where he is under investigation for alleged misappropriation of funds.
The hearing was delayed following the DSS's failure to present El-Rufai for the planned arraignment.
Consequently, Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to April 23 to facilitate the arraignment.
El-Rufai is facing three counts related to the supposed unlawful interception of the phone communications of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, allegedly violating the Cybercrimes Act.
He is also accused of employing technical systems in a way that purportedly endangered public safety and national security, as well as instilling fear among the populace, which is contrary to the Nigerian Communications Act.
These allegations arose from remarks he made during a February 13 interview with ARISE News, where he claimed awareness of intercepted phone calls involving Nuhu Ribadu, allegedly concerning a planned arrest against him.
