The Defence Headquarters of Nigeria has expressed optimism that the partnership with U.S. military personnel will lead to notable enhancements in the near future, although some elements of this military cooperation are classified.
Furthermore, the military has dismissed allegations concerning the recruitment of rehabilitated terrorists into its ranks.
Despite the arrival of U.S. troops on February 15, 2025, to bolster Nigeria’s military efforts, insecurity continues to plague the nation.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, Major General Micheal Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed that U.S. support consists of intelligence gathering and operational training designed to strengthen the armed forces' capabilities in confronting emerging threats.
He noted that some facets of the partnership remain undisclosed due to the sensitive nature of ongoing military operations.
Although the effects of this support might not be observed immediately, he reassured that it would soon manifest in tangible results on the battlefield.
"These efforts require time and involve a gestation period during military operations. We can assure you that they are providing us with sufficient intelligence," he stated.
The military also assured citizens of enhanced security during the Easter festivities, taking into account that such occasions often introduce raised security risks.
Moreover, Brigadier General Yusuf Alli, overseeing Operation Safe Corridor, clarified that the military is not enlisting de-radicalized terrorists and rejected rumors that they serve as informants for Boko Haram/ISWAP militants.
