Eucharia Anunobi, a prominent figure in Nollywood, has recently shared her poignant story about the challenges she faced regarding her relationship with her father while focusing on her education and career in entertainment.
In a recent podcast, Anunobi articulated her father's staunch opposition to her pursuing academic and career ambitions, as he deemed educating a girl child unnecessary due to expectations of marriage and name changes.
Despite his financial stability, Anunobi explained that her father withdrew support for her education and ultimately severed ties when she did not conform to his desired career path.
She resorted to modeling as a means to fund her education, noting that it was instrumental in covering her schooling expenses.
The actress recounted a troubling moment when her father locked her in her room for six months after she refused to submit job applications for a position he wanted her to take. He would slip the forms under her door, insisting that she fill them out.
Despite his relentless pressure, Anunobi stood firm in her decision not to pursue an office job.
Moreover, she disclosed that her father had essentially disowned her and was openly against her acting endeavors, which prompted her to sneak out of their home to attend auditions, occasionally even climbing over the fence.
Anunobi identified a pivotal moment in her journey when she clinched her first award in London for the film 'Glamour Girls'. Upon her return, she presented the trophy to her father; he requested that she kneel, sprinkled sand into her hand, and offered his blessing.
“His words were, 'As they cannot count the sand, they will never measure your glory,'” she shared, marking the occasion as the first time he embraced and blessed her after years of conflict.
