Former NFL player Alshon Jeffery has reportedly been arrested in California, facing allegations of insurance fraud. The news indicates that the 36-year- old, who secured a Super Bowl victory with the Philadelphia Eagles, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning. He was booked into a local jail at approximately 8 a.m. and has since been released.
Law enforcement officials have stated that Jeffery is also accused of failing to disclose an insurance benefit or payment. Specific details pertaining to the investigation have not yet been released to the public.
In California, insurance fraud is classified as a felony offense. Conviction can lead to a prison sentence of up to five years and potential fines equivalent to double the value of the alleged fraudulent amount.
Jeffery had a nine-year career in the National Football League, playing for both the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2013 and played a significant role in the Eagles' Super Bowl LII triumph over the New England Patriots, recording three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Prior to his professional career, Jeffery was a prominent collegiate athlete at the University of South Carolina, where he received All-American and All- SEC honors. His jersey number has since been retired by the university's program. Jeffery has not yet issued any public statements regarding his arrest.
