A security specialist and ex-governorship contender in Kwara State, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, has urged for the adoption of community policing as a strategic method to tackle the persistent insecurity issues plaguing the nation.

Ajia explained that this model would facilitate security personnel in obtaining credible intelligence directly from community members. He pointed out that local populations have become vulnerable targets for violent non- state actors due to a lack of adequate security measures.

He made these remarks following his official switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his Magaji Ngeri ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to Ajia, recent events at the national level indicate a renewed commitment to confronting insecurity.

He referenced the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, suggesting that this move illustrates the administration's determination to address security challenges effectively.

Ajia characterized this decision as a sign of seriousness, asserting that Nigeria cannot afford to politicize the issue of insecurity any longer.

He emphasized that the security crisis facing the country requires a response that transcends mere military action and calls for a collective effort from citizens, community leaders, and political figures.

The APC leader urged the populace to view bandits as adversaries of the state instead of mere tools for political rivalry. He insisted that national security and public welfare must take precedence over political affiliations and religious beliefs.

“One of the primary motivations behind our transition to the APC is to bolster government efforts,” he stated. “Every patriotic Nigerian should unite in the fight against insecurity, acknowledging that we have significant security challenges nationwide, including in Kwara,” he added.

Drawing from his academic and professional expertise, Ajia cited that his doctoral thesis was centered on community policing and national security. He asserted that both research results and practical experience support the notion that grassroots involvement is the most viable solution to Nigeria’s security predicaments.

Ajia affirmed that his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was amicable, prompted by national interests rather than political discontent.

“For me, this is a matter of national interest and the safety of our citizens. We have parted amicably. However, at this juncture, supporting the current administration in addressing insecurity is critical,” he explained.

He cautioned against utilizing opposition rhetoric concerning national security matters, noting that politicizing vital issues could hinder progress and dilute collective resolve.

Ajia called for citizens to regard Nigeria as a shared national enterprise that necessitates cooperation, vigilance, and civic responsibility from all sectors.

Regarding the upcoming 2027 general elections, Ajia confirmed that he has completed his formal registration with the APC and characterized his move as a symbolic endorsement of President Tinubu’s re-election campaign and the development initiatives led by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

He expressed optimism that recent federal policies had started to produce positive outcomes.

Ajia noted that these reforms are essential to stabilize the economy and reposition the nation for future success. He reiterated that he and his supporters would campaign throughout communities in Kwara State in support of the President's aspiration for a second term, asserting that continuity is vital for national development.
