The Federal Government has finalized plans to set up an office of the National Sports Commission (NSC) in Kwara State, building on the progress made by the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in developing sports infrastructure. Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji, revealed this development during the unveiling of a book titled "The Sardauna of Ilorin in the Eyes of History," which was written to honor the governor, who holds the traditional title of Sardauna of Ilorin.
Magaji explained that officials from the NSC had visited Kwara approximately three weeks prior to evaluate the sports facilities created over the past seven years. The officials expressed satisfaction with the state stadium complex, noting that the proposed NSC office would be established in the state. According to Magaji, this development reflects the increasing recognition of Kwara's investment in sports infrastructure.
He highlighted that the state's stadium complex features some of the world's best squash court facilities. Additionally, he noted that Kwara's national and international sporting teams have achieved improved medal-winning performances. Magaji attributed these developments to targeted investments in sports infrastructure and efforts to promote sporting activities across the state.
Special Adviser and Counsellor to the Governor, Alhaji Saad Salahudeen, also spoke at the event, emphasizing that Governor AbdulRazaq's contributions to governance, politics, youth development, and national progress will continue to be significant for years to come. He stated that the governor's public service legacy will remain relevant and be referenced for the next half- century.
The event was organized by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mallam Umar Abdulwahab, who described it as a platform for discussions on leadership, public service, governance, and historical preservation. The initiative also aimed to document experiences and inspire future generations.
