A blaze broke out on Saturday night, destroying over ten shops at the renowned Terminus Market situated in Jos, Plateau State.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted around 10:00 p.m. after most traders had wrapped up their day’s business.
This incident follows a similar fire that occurred three months prior, resulting in the loss of property within a section of the market.
On Sunday morning, reporters observed that numerous shops had been affected, particularly those selling clothing and footwear, which were completely reduced to ashes.
While market authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the fire, some affected individuals have speculated that it could be linked to an electrical fault.
Emergency services, including firefighters, promptly responded to the scene and managed to contain the fire, averting a potential escalation into a larger disaster.
A witness, Mr. Silas Lawrenzo, stated that firefighters from the National Emergency Management Agency, as well as local emergency services, collaborated effectively to extinguish the flames, curbing further spread across the bustling market area.
He noted that the swift and organized action played a critical role in controlling the situation and limiting damages.
Reports indicate that the market has previously faced three fire incidents within the last year, resulting in significant financial losses amounting to millions of naira.
