Five young female students lost their lives at an elementary school in Iran due to missile attacks reportedly carried out by Israel and the United States, according to Iran’s state-controlled news outlet, IRNA.
Al Jazeera reports that the tragedy occurred at a school situated in Minab, located in the Hormozgan province in southern Iran.
In what appears to be a retaliatory action, Iran launched strikes, which inflicted damage to a nine-story structure in northern Israel and resulted in one man suffering minor injuries.
Israeli Channel 12 cited reports indicating that while Israeli defense systems intercepted some of the Iranian missiles, debris from the interceptions caused injuries to the individual in the building.
Throughout Israel, emergency sirens have been continually activated, prompting residents to seek refuge in shelters. As a precautionary measure, schools, airports, and public facilities have been closed indefinitely.
In a reciprocal response, Iran has shut down its airspace and closed schools along with other communal buildings.
The conflict escalated early Saturday when the US and Israel commenced their military actions against Iran, which has since retaliated by targeting both Israeli and US military bases across the Middle East. Reports have confirmed at least one fatality due to the Iranian missile assaults in the United Arab Emirates.
