The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that a road accident occurring on Monday resulted in the deaths of ten individuals along the Tafa axis in Niger State.

Malam Shehu Mohammed, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, provided these details through a statement from the Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Mrs. Felicia Kalu, in Abuja.

The accident took place at approximately 8:20 a.m. on the Tafa–Gujeni road at Malam Tanko, resulting in injuries to twenty others, while three individuals were reported to have been rescued without injury.

According to Mohammed, the incident fell within the operational area of RS7.26A at the Tafa Outpost, involving a DAF tanker with the registration number FKY136XD.

"The vehicle was transporting thirty-three male passengers when the incident occurred," he stated.

He mentioned that preliminary investigations indicated that ten individuals had perished, twenty sustained injuries, and three were unharmed.

Evidence suggests that the crash resulted from excessive speed, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Moreover, he noted that the vehicle was engaged in illegal mixed loading, transporting both goods and passengers simultaneously.

FRSC personnel responded swiftly, rescuing twenty-three victims and clearing the scene to restore normal traffic flow.

The injured were immediately transported to Umar Musa General Hospital in Sabon Wuse, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary.

Mohammed characterized this accident as preventable, labeling it a “painful reminder” of the repercussions of violating traffic regulations.

He urged drivers to adhere to safety measures, observe speed limits, and avoid using inappropriate vehicles for passenger transport.
