The Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure (FUTA) is calling on the Ondo State branch of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) to reconsider and halt its scheduled industrial action. The union had previously communicated its intention to embark on a strike, set to begin on April 8, 2026, due to a number of long-standing issues with the hospital’s administration.

In a formal letter signed by its chairman, Elusoji Olumide, the NUAHP expressed that the Chief Medical Director has not adequately addressed trade disputes that impact the welfare, professional status, and overall working conditions of its members.

However, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Tope Fayehun, responded on Sunday, refuting these claims as inaccurate and misleading. He stated that the allegations do not accurately represent the hospital's commitment to transparency and cooperation, qualities that he noted are acknowledged by other staff members.

Fayehun reiterated the institution's dedication to staff well-being and the provision of high-quality healthcare services. He emphasized that FUTA Teaching Hospital operates in adherence to the established standards for federal teaching hospitals across Nigeria.

"We remain fully committed to the welfare of our staff, the delivery of world- class healthcare, and elevating FUTA Teaching Hospital to the standards of leading teaching hospitals in Nigeria and beyond," the hospital’s statement affirmed.

The hospital management also denied assertions of arbitrary staff dismissals, forced transfers, demotions, and instances of intimidation. It clarified that all administrative decisions are made in accordance with due process and industry best practices.

While appealing to the union to reconsider its decision to strike, the hospital management has encouraged ongoing dialogue as a means to resolve the dispute amicably.

"Your cooperation is vital to sustaining progress and ensuring uninterrupted, compassionate care for our patients," the statement concluded.

The management further affirmed its readiness to engage with stakeholders and invited verification of its commitment to fairness and professional conduct.
