The police command in Oyo State has captured a group of alleged armed robbers known for using tricycles to steal from unsuspecting victims.
The suspects were found hiding in a hotel situated in the 7UP/Academy area of Ibadan, following an alert given to the police by concerned residents.
Acting promptly on the intelligence provided, the police operatives conducted a strategic sting operation at the location, resulting in the apprehension of six individuals identified as Kelvin Daniel (21), Idris Ramon (25), Christopher Solomon (35), Mohamed Telim (21), Taored Aderibigbe (30), and Adekunle Tolani (27).
Among the items seized from the suspects were 18 mobile phones, one Opay ATM card, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, and a tricycle with the registration number OYO SHK 508 QP, which is reportedly the vehicle used in their criminal activities.
DSP Alayande Olayinka, the spokesperson for the police command, confirmed the arrests and stated that preliminary inquiries indicated that the suspects admitted to belonging to a gang that has been frightening residents in Ibadan.
Olayinka reassured the public that the investigation is still underway and all suspects will be taken to court following complete investigations. He also mentioned that further updates will be provided as they become available.
