Founder Explains the Name
During his address, Dr. Joe Enobong Essiet elaborated on the origins of the resort's name, Gemba, which he explained is a Japanese term signifying "the actual place where value is created." He stated that this definition was not merely symbolic but represented the core operational philosophy guiding the development of the property.
“Gemba Hotel and Resort was not created to be another name in hospitality,” Dr. Essiet remarked. “It was created to be a sanctuary, a destination, a story. A place where nature, culture, innovation, and hospitality come together with deliberate intention.”
He articulated the vision behind the project as the establishment of a world- class resort that harmonizes Africa's natural beauty with Japanese philosophical principles, all while adhering to global luxury standards. His message emphasized "Not imitation but innovation; not noise but excellence."
Dr. Essiet further highlighted the economic impact of the investment, pledging the resort's commitment to job creation, the advancement of tourism, and fostering local partnerships. He expressed a desire for the property to enhance Cross River State's standing within the national hospitality sector.
He concluded his speech by extending a welcome to future visitors. "Welcome to the actual place where value is created," he stated. "Welcome to Gemba Hotel and Resort."
