Law enforcement agents in Ghana have taken a 72-year-old man into custody following the fatal shooting of a fashion designer and her uncle during a dispute over a financial debt.

Ghanaian law enforcement authorities have taken 72-year-old Samuel Christopher Osei Anto into custody regarding the brutal killings of 47-year-old fashion designer Irene Atugugba and her 57-year-old uncle, George Atugugba. The tragic incident occurred at the NTHC Estate located in Sakumono within the Greater Accra Region.

How did the arrest unfold?

According to an official update issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the fugitive was tracked down and apprehended on Sunday, November 1, at a concealed location in Tikrom, situated close to Ejisu in the Ashanti Region. Intelligence operatives moved in on his hideout following a coordinated surveillance operation, successfully securing the suspect without further incident.

What motivated the killings?

Initial findings from ongoing police inquiries suggest that the double homicide stemmed from a bitter monetary disagreement. Investigators gathered that the older Mr. Atugugba and the suspect were locked in a dispute after the 72-year-old allegedly borrowed the sum of GH¢500,000.00 but repeatedly defaulted on returning the funds.

What items were recovered during the operation?

During the raid on his hideout, tactical officers recovered a Smith & Wesson pistol alongside seven rounds of live ammunition. Authorities have formally registered the firearm and ammunition as physical evidence as the suspect remains in police detention undergoing further interrogation ahead of formal court proceedings.
