The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, recently inaugurated the 5.2-kilometer Iworo–Ogbogbo–Igbeba Road, located within the Ijebu North-East Local Government Area. During the unveiling ceremony, he also committed to building two additional roads in the area by the end of the calendar year.
During his speech, Abiodun remarked that the new road improves vital access to farming areas and represents a fulfillment of a promise made during his campaign for re-election in 2023.
Abiodun assured attendees, "I want to promise you that between now and the end of the year, I will construct two more roads in this local government. Let me assure you that the Central Mosque–Ilese to Benin–Sagamu Expressway, for which you have made a case, will be prioritized."
He highlighted that this new road connects Ijebu North-East to Ijebu-Ode, facilitating the transportation of agricultural products to markets more efficiently. He added that this initiative continues the development work commenced last year with the commissioning of the Igbeba Road in Ijebu-Ode.
He further remarked, "We are being intentional about this. I will describe it as our own infrastructural emancipation of the whole Ijebuland."
Abiodun reflected on the previous poor condition of roads in Ijebu-Ode, which had deterred transportation operators. However, he noted satisfaction in how enhanced infrastructure has attracted companies interested in providing taxi services in Ijebuland.
While acknowledging the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in creating a conducive atmosphere for impactful projects, he reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuing to address criticism with tangible development.
The representative for the Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu North-East Federal Constituency, Femi Ogunbanwo, noted that the constituency has greatly benefited from the administration's infrastructural efforts and pledged ongoing support for the governor.
Kehinde Onasanya, the Head of Service, stated that the project underscores the state government's dedication to unprecedented development and noted that the residents would not forget this gesture.
In his remarks, Ade Akinsanya, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, mentioned that the road was one of several initiatives aimed at boosting economic activities in the area. He explained that the previously dilapidated road has been renovated with durable reinforced concrete drainage systems, significantly enhancing connectivity throughout the region.
Additionally, the Ilese of Ilese Kingdom, Oba Oluremi Obayomi, referred to the project as a positive development that aligns with priority projects presented to the governor during his second-term campaign. He called for the reconstruction of the Central Mosque–Ilese to Benin–Sagamu Expressway.
The Oniworo of Iworo, Oba Asebisi Onafunwa, praised the project as a testament to the governor’s dedication to community development and emphasized the road's role in enhancing commercial activities and access to farmlands while advocating for solar-powered streetlights to enhance security in the area.
