Governor Lawal Receives Sun Newspaper's Best Governor of the Year Award

Dauda Lawal, the current Governor of Zamfara State, has been honored with the 'Best Governor of the Year 2025' award presented by the Sun Newspaper. This recognition took place at the prestigious Sun Awards event, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Expo Convention Centre, located in Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

According to a statement from Sulaiman Bala Idris, the spokesperson for the governor, the Sun awards aim to celebrate exemplary achievements and acknowledge the contributions of individuals in various sectors across the country.

The announcement highlighted Governor Lawal's effective leadership style and the remarkable successes of his administration, particularly in fostering good governance in Zamfara State.

The official statement elaborated, stating: "Governor Dauda Lawal accepting the Best Governor of the Year 2025 award from The Sun Publishing Limited's management is a clear testament to the positive direction of his administration's rescue mission."

Since taking office as the Executive Governor on May 29, 2023, Lawal has made significant strides in service delivery. Despite facing challenges from a weakened treasury, he has remained committed to the Rescue agenda's goal of revitalizing Zamfara.

Security has been a major focus for Governor Lawal, with his administration investing billions in enhancing safety within the state over the past two years. Moreover, he has made considerable progress in sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and the welfare and empowerment of workers.

The statement concluded that such recognitions serve as motivation for continued efforts in ensuring improved governance in Zamfara State. In December 2025, Zamfara was also recognized as the leading state in the North West for the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge.
