The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has expressed great enthusiasm over the successful completion of the historic test flight at Gusau International Airport.

According to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the aircraft landed at the airport precisely at 4:30 PM on March 22.

The aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 605, was operated on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The governor's statement highlighted, "Today is a remarkable day for Zamfara State as Governor Lawal witnessed the historic landing of the inaugural flight at Gusau International Airport."

The flight, registered as 5N-FGZ, was part of a one-off evaluation to gauge the airport's readiness for VIP traffic planned for the following week.

The test flight adhered to the stipulations set out in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) Part 12.1.4.1(c).

Prior to the flight, the state government sought and received permission from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which issued a one-time ‘No Technical Objection’ (NTO) for the aircraft’s landing in Gusau.

The flight operations were conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), strictly observed from dawn until dusk.

Governor Lawal’s administration has gained a significant reputation boost from this historic flight, particularly as Zamfara has not had an airport for over 30 years.
