The Ondo State Police Command has reported the kidnapping of a council secretary alongside another individual at a poultry farm situated in the Akure North Local Government Area.
In a statement, the police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, revealed that the victims were abducted on the morning of Monday, March 9, 2026, along Kajola Road in Ilu-Abo.
The kidnapped individuals have been identified as Joseph Kayode and Esther Akinlolu. According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, Kayode serves as the Secretary for Okeluju Local Council Development Area located in Akoko North-West Local Government Area.
Jimoh shared that preliminary investigations indicated that three armed and masked individuals, believed to have emerged from a nearby bush, executed the attack on the poultry farm.
Witnesses reported that the attackers fired shots into the air before forcibly taking the victims away to an undisclosed location.
Following the distress call, the police promptly dispatched tactical teams and detectives to the scene to initiate search and rescue efforts. They are also enhancing security patrols in the area to deter further incidents, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the mobilization of all necessary operational and intelligence resources to facilitate the safe recovery of the victims and the arrest of the kidnappers.
Security teams, alongside non-conventional security groups, are currently scouring nearby forests and adjacent communities in an attempt to locate the suspects.
The police command acknowledges the unease this incident has caused among residents, particularly among parents and school authorities, which has led to the temporary closure of local schools.
Residents are urged to remain calm and to refrain from disseminating unverified information that could incite unnecessary panic in the community.
Moreover, parents, guardians, and community leaders are encouraged to assist the police and other security agencies by providing relevant and actionable intelligence that could aid ongoing operations.
Jimoh reaffirmed that the Ondo State Police Command is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens.
