Hashtag United, a professional football club known for its origins in social media, has made a formal request to be relegated from the Isthmian League Premier Division, which is recognized as the seventh tier of English football.

Founded in 2016 by YouTuber Spencer Owen, the club has asked to drop down from Step 3 of the non-league pyramid.

Currently, Hashtag United occupies the 19th position in the Isthmian Premier, just one spot above the relegation zone.

In a statement, the club emphasized that they informed players as soon as possible to allow them to make personal decisions ahead of the registration deadline.

They further stated, "We are not reducing our budget nor releasing any players who wish to remain. Our goal is to avoid finishing in the bottom four and to make this move purely administrative."

The league has acknowledged receipt of Hashtag's request.

A statement from the Isthmian League indicated, "The league is not in a position to provide a definitive statement regarding the outcome. Typically, if a club resigns during the season, they are treated as relegated, and the team finishing fourth from bottom is reprieved."

It was noted that the final decision rests with The FA, and clubs will be informed once a resolution is reached.

Hashtag United started as a social media initiative, amassing a large following on YouTube before entering the non-league system in 2018, after achieving promotion three times.

The club also launched a women’s team in 2020, which currently competes in the third tier of the English football pyramid.

Their rapid ascent included participating in charity matches at Wembley Stadium and touring the United States, leading to a steady eight-year journey in non-league football.
